The Tour So Far

The Children's Bookshow Tour 2013 is now well and truly under way and we are thrilled at the success of each event so far, with another 5 events taking place before the end of November.

Thank you to all the schools who came along to theatres around the country, to enjoy these special performances from such talented and inspiring authors and illustrators. We are delighted at the reaction of the children and believe the memories of these experiences will live on long after the end of the tour. We hope that children who have come into contact with real writers and artists will be enthused and inspired to believe in themselves as creative people, and that their appreciation of books will strengthen and deepen as a result.

The Workshops that have taken place in the classrooms of our visiting schools have been a wonderful experience for everyone. Not only were the excited children amazed by the chance to ask questions and engage with such creative people, but the writers and artists were able to meet the young people who read their books and find out what they think and see their reactions face to face. We wanted to share some responses to these events and are encouraged by some glowing reviews from bloggers who saw them in action.

Ann, who runs the brilliant Bookwitch blog site, witnessed the wonder of Jackie Kay's poetry at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester.

And Susie Tyler, a librarian and children's book reviewer, visited The People's Theatre in Newcastle to see Catherine Rayner . One child who was watching was heard to utter ""Wow, that's magic!" as Catherine drew before their eyes.

Children in Ipswich, Oxford, Southport and Plymouth are yet to meet Jessica Souhami, Fabio Geda, Nicolette Jones, Kit Wright and Michael Rosen and we eagerly anticipate the delight they will generate.

We look forward to a very interesting event at Europe House in London on Friday 15th November from 3pm. Found in Translation features an engrossing panel discussion on publishing translation, an event that celebrates the success of young translators, and a fascinating translation workshop that will focus on Kevin Crossley-Holland's translation of Beowulf. The events are FREE but it is essential to book your place. Email sianwilliams1@gmail.com. For more information about the programme of events please visit our website www.thechildrensbookshow.com
